Choosing panels for a factory roof: How to read the comparison

Four specs that matter for factory roofs: Weight, power density, degradation and warranty.

Two panels of the same 2,382 × 1,134 mm size can differ in power and weight. On a factory roof, these four specs matter most.

1. Weight

Long-span metal roofs have limited capacity. The Hi-MO X10 weighs 28.5 kg per panel, the Hi-MO 7 33.5 kg. Across 1,000 panels the difference is 5 tonnes on the roof. The structure must be checked during the survey, not inferred from this figure.

2. Power density (kWp/m²)

Density = panel power divided by panel area. The 670 W X10 gives about 0.248 kWp per m², the 625 W Hi-MO 7 about 0.231 kWp per m² (before any rear-side gain). When the roof is the limit, higher density means more kWp on the same roof.

3. Degradation

Both panels lose about 1% in year one. From year 2, the X10 loses 0.35% per year and the Hi-MO 7 0.4% per year. Small numbers, but they add up over 25–30 years.

4. Warranty

Product warranty (materials and workmanship): X10 15 years, Hi-MO 7 12 years. Power warranty: Both 30 years. Warranties are provided by the manufacturer; keep the serial numbers of each lot for claims.

When to choose the Hi-MO 7?

The Hi-MO 7 is bifacial. On flat roofs with raised frames or ground projects, the rear side collects reflected light and can add output. On a metal roof with flush mounting, that gain is small.
